India keen to work closely with interim government, Foreign Secretary Vikram after meeting with Foreign Advisor

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri, who is on a visit to Dhaka, said that India wants to establish constructive and positive relations with Bangladesh. He said that Delhi is keen to work with the interim government of Bangladesh, which will be helpful in the interests of the people of both countries.


He made these remarks after a courtesy call on Foreign Advisor Md. Towhid Hossain on Monday afternoon.

This morning, Vikram Mishri arrived in Dhaka on a special Indian Air Force flight to attend a meeting with Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin. This is his first visit to Bangladesh as Foreign Secretary.

Vikram Mishri said, "We had very frank and constructive discussions. I have clearly mentioned that India wants to build a positive, constructive and mutually beneficial relationship with Bangladesh. We have seen examples of such relations in the past and it will continue to be people-centric and people-oriented in the future, where the welfare of all people will be given importance."

The Indian Foreign Secretary added, "There is no doubt that this mutually beneficial cooperation will continue in the interest of the people of our two countries. Today, I have conveyed India's keenness to work closely with the interim government of Bangladesh. At the same time, we have had the opportunity to discuss some of the recent developments and issues."

He added, "I have raised our concerns about the security and welfare of minorities. We have also discussed some of the unfortunate incidents of attacks on cultural, religious and diplomatic properties."
